I tried to listen to some Christmas music while I worked today, but in recent days we've had some new fun sounds in our apartment that make that a harder task than you'd expect:
A very strange thing happened to Ian when he took Reeves out this evening. A man (a little drunk) approached him and began asking about Reeves, as best he could in very limited English. He asked Ian to wait, ran back into the building and retrieved a younger man, who Ian assumed spoke more English. He didn't. They charade-spoke for another few minutes before they ran inside and retrieved a third man, who also spoke very little English. Ian told them that Reeves was hit by a car (it's easier to mime that version of the story) and that we're working with him on his walking. He pulled up the picture of the article on his iPod to show them the wheels and help explain the situation. Then one of the men, the first man who had been outside, suddenly presented 500 yuan to Ian, and said that it was to help with Reeves. Ian tried to refuse, but he insisted.
